Staying Sharp in Life and Business
According to an article by Inc.com, there are some tiny habits you can instill in your day-to-day to help you be more productive, confident, and smarter. I picked my 3 favorites and added my thoughts on the matter.
1. Exercise. Not only does exercise put out endorphins in your body which makes you happier, studies have shown it reduces stress and can even help with memory. "Researchers discovered in this study that aerobic exercise increases the size of the anterior hippocampus, which leads to improvements in memory and cognition." Not only does exercise have the benefit of keeping you slim and trim, it also increases your memory which can be beneficial in both your personal life and work life.
2. Sleep. Without sleep, you are less productive and more irritable which are two traits that make you a liability in the work place. "In fact, neuroscientists have found that after being awake for 16 hours, your ability to focus and executive-function decrease." Sleep is nutrition and it is important in all areas of life so commit to sleeping each night at least 7-9 hours, no excuses.
3. Read. Opening up your mind to new ideas and experiences can be as simple as sitting in your bed and opening up a good book. Some of the most successful people in the world, cue Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos, read upwards of 40 books per year. "In fact, reading and other activities that challenge the mind have been associated with potentially lessening your chances of Alzheimer's, according to research published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences."
